Rehan summoned to CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned Rehan Jayawickrama, the Vice Chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawega (SJB) Youth Front and the party’s Weligama Organizer, to report to the CID at 2.00 pm today (20).

He has been summoned to record a statement regarding the investigation into the arson attack on the private residence of Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe on July 09 when he was serving as the Prime Minister.

Investigations to arrest those involved in the arson attack on Mr. Wickremesinghe’s house are still ongoing.

Accordingly, Rehan is said to be the first political figure to be summoned to the CID over the incident.

Sajith unanimously re-elected as SJB leader

MP Sajith Premadasa has been unanimously re-elected as the Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) at the party’s annual conference currently underway at Campbell Park in Borella.

Taking to the stage, SJB general secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara nominated the Opposition Leader’s name for the position of party leader for the year 2023 and asked for a show of hands to second it.

Accordingly, Mr. Premadasa was unanimously re-elected as the party’s leader for the year 2023.

The party leader then proceeded to take the stage to announce the names of the party’s office bearers for next year.

MP Sarath Fonseka was re-appointed as the Chairman of the party while MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara has been chosen as the SJB’s General Secretary once again.

MP Dr. Harsha de Silva was appointed as the Treasurer of the party and MP Tissa Attanayake was re-appointed as the National Organiser.

The third annual party conference of Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) commenced at 01.00 p.m. at Campbell Park, Borella today (11) with the participation of parliamentarians and members of the alliance and leaders of many other friendly parties.

MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that this conference has been organized to strengthen party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

25,000 party members to Colombo for the SJB conference

The annual party conference of Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) is scheduled to be held today (Dec. 11).

General Secretary of SJB, Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that the conference will be held at 01.00 p.m. in the Borella Campbell Park, adding that nearly 25,000 people will take part in the conference.

The leaders of many other friendly parties will also participate in the conference, he said.

SJB to vote against Budget 2023 tomorrow

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has decided to vote against the 2023 Budget proposal, during tomorrow’s (22) vote of Budget’s second reading, MP Tissa Attanayake says.

Earlier today evening, the Central Committee of the SLFP has also decided to vote against the Budget 2023 tomorrow.

At least 16 persons including Nawalapitiya Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Organizer Sasanka Sampath have been arrested for protesting against a meeting held by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) in Nawalapitiya today.

The second public rally of the series of “Let’s rise together” organized by the SLPP was held in Nawalapitiya today and a tense situation was reported with the arrival of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

This rally was organized under the coordination of MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

The security of Nawalapitiya city has been strengthened.
