One report was related to the errors and irregularities committed in the issuance of housing loans and donations by the Weerakatiya Zonal Office of Hambantota District and disposal of vacant lands within the period of 2017 – 2019.

Also, an inspection report was tabled on posters, invitations and commemorative zones printed for the housing villages between 2016 and 2019, while making the vote of thanks on the expenditure heading of the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

Speaking during the Budget debate in Parliament today (21), the MP pointed out that the responsibility of the Finance Minister cannot be successfully handled with the burden of executive presidency.

He also expressed his regret at the insurance given to journalists being scrapped from Budget 2023.

The Members of Parliament who were present had a lengthy discussion on the draft bill related to the establishment of the budget office of the parliament. Also, it was decided to meet again in two weeks after further study of this bill.

Deputy Speaker – Ajith Rajapakse, Leader of the Opposition – Sajith Premadasa, Leader of the House, Minister – Susil Premajayantha, Chief Opposition Whip – Lakshman Kiriella, Ministers – Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Ali Sabri, Douglas Devananda as well as Members of Parliament – Johnston Fernando, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Gamini Lokage, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Kabir Hashim, Kumara Welgama, Sagara Kariyawasam, Shan Vijayalal de Silva, Wimal Weerawansa, Harsha De Silva, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, V. Radhakrishnan and A.L.M. Ataullah were present at the meeting.

174 votes were cast in its favor while one MP abstained.

The second reading of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill has been passed in parliament by a majority of 178 votes.

During the division, 179 parliamentarians in total voted in favour of the bill. It received only one vote against it.

The two-day parliamentary debate on the second reading of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill commenced on Thursday (Oct. 20). At the end of the debate today, a vote was called on the bill.
